Jim Naismith is the Conrad Blucher Chair for Excellence in Hydrographic and Coastal Surveying at CBI. He earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a M.S. in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University, College Station. He is a Registered Professional Land Surveyor and a Licensed State Land Surveyor in Texas. He completed and maintains a U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License. Jim’s initial research was in continental scale survey control. He then transitioned to international sales for survey technology companies based in Silicon Valley and Europe. In the early 2000s, he returned to Texas and built Naismith Marine, a successful hydrographic surveying company. He sold Naismith Marine in 2020 and now works as the Director of Field Engineering at Callan Marine, Ltd. His current focus is research in deep draft channel/dock construction and hydrographic survey education and training.
