Mr. Naismith is currently the Chair for Excellence in Hydrographic and Coastal Surveying at CBI. He earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a M.S. in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University, College Station. He is a Registered Professional Land Surveyor and a Licensed State Land Surveyor in Texas. He completed and maintains a U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License. Jim’s initial research was in continental scale survey control. He then transitioned to international sales for survey technology companies based in Silicon Valley and Europe. In the early 2000’s, he returned to Texas and built a successful hydrographic surveying company, Naismith Marine. He sold Naismith Marine to T. Baker Smith in 2020 where he now works as a Senior Solutions Lead in the Innovative Solutions Group. His current focus is deep draft channel/dock management and hydrographic survey training.
